Raghav Chadha Returns Amid Controversy Over Swati Maliwal Assault Case
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha made his first public appearance in months on Saturday, arriving at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. Chadha returned from the UK, where he underwent major eye surgery. His visit comes amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged assault of AAP MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal.
According to the party, Chadha had been in the UK for eye surgery due to a serious condition that risked blindness. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that Chadha would return to India and rejoin the election campaign once he recovered.
Chadha, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, had been absent from the party’s election campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the past few months, raising questions about his absence.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police officials on Saturday arrested Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, in connection with the alleged assault case. Kumar was taken from the chief minister’s official residence around noon for interrogation.
This development follows Maliwal’s medical report, which indicated bruises on her left leg dorsal and right cheek. Earlier this week, Maliwal filed an FIR against Kumar, accusing him of hitting her “with full force again and again,” and kicking and slapping her seven to eight times. Her medical examination was conducted on Friday.
