Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C announced that after scrutiny and withdrawal of papers, 328 candidates, including 302 males and 26 females, are left in the race for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat has the highest number of candidates, with 43 in contention.

Initially, 466 candidates had filed 598 nominations for the June 1 elections. Sibin emphasized adherence to the Election Commission of India’s model code of conduct for peaceful and fair elections. He urged political parties to avoid unverified allegations and comply with regulations, including restrictions on loudspeaker usage and campaign materials near polling booths.

Sibin stressed the importance of maintaining election purity and transparency, prohibiting corrupt practices, and ensuring compliance with electoral offenses. He highlighted the penalties under Section 127 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, for disorderly conduct at public meetings.

To manage disruptions at political meetings, Sibin recommended seeking police assistance and reminded that demonstrations outside private residences are prohibited. He underscored the need for political workers to display badges or identity cards and comply with vehicle restrictions during the campaign and on polling day.
