Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, has moved for bail following his arrest by Delhi Police in the Swati Maliwal assault case. His counsel, senior advocate N Hariharan, argued in court that no notice was served before Kumar’s arrest and emphasized that Kumar is not a flight risk.
Hariharan presented videos disputing Maliwal’s allegations, asserting that she had no prior appointment with the Chief Minister on May 13. He claimed the incident was fabricated and highlighted a security breach report by the personnel. “The entire place is covered by CCTV. To get into the office and meet the CM, you need a prior appointment, which she did not have,” Hariharan argued.
In court, Kumar’s lawyer stressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation and requested interim protection, criticizing the lack of prior notice. Hariharan pointed out that Maliwal initially left the police station on May 13 without filing a complaint, only to lodge it on May 16, suggesting premeditation.
The court disposed of the anticipatory bail application as infructuous after additional public prosecutor Atul Kumar Srivastava informed that Kumar had been arrested during the bail hearing. Hariharan reiterated outside the court that there is no case against Kumar, highlighting discrepancies between CCTV footage and Maliwal’s delayed statement.
