The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Bibhav Kumar, personal assistant to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, in connection with the alleged assault on former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal. The NCW took suo moto cognizance of Maliwal’s social media post accusing Kumar of assaulting her at Kejriwal’s residence. Kumar is required to appear before the NCW on May 17, 2024, failing which further action will be taken.
Maliwal reported the incident at the Civil Lines police station but has yet to file a formal complaint. The allegation has sparked political tension, with AAP and opposition trading barbs. AAP leader Sanjay Singh condemned the incident, while BJP criticized Kejriwal’s silence on the matter. The issue was downplayed by Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav during a joint press conference with Kejriwal. Singh defended his party, emphasizing AAP’s commitment to justice for women.
