Punjab and Haryana High Court Grants Interim Bail to Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in Money Laundering Case
  • PublishedMay 15, 2024

Former forest minister in the Congress government, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, was granted interim bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday in a money laundering case. Dharamsot sought interim bail to campaign in the Lok Sabha polls, citing the example of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court on similar grounds.

The order was issued by the high court bench of Justice Vikas Bahl, although a detailed order is yet to be made available. Senior advocates APS Deol and Himmat Deol, representing Dharamsot, confirmed that he is required to surrender on June 6.

Dharamsot had filed his plea for bail on April 5, citing the need for bail to participate in the election campaign. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) case against him originates from two FIRs filed in Punjab. One FIR pertains to a corruption case registered in 2022, while the second FIR was filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) in an alleged disproportionate assets case registered in 2023.
