Delhi Capitals Edge Out Lucknow Super Giants in Thrilling 19-Run Victory

Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a 19-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a high-stakes IPL 2024 group stage match, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Batting first, DC posted 208 for 4, powered by fifties from Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs. Ishant Sharma’s early breakthroughs left LSG struggling at 44 for 4 in their chase of 209.

Despite the shaky start, Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 61 and Arshad Khan’s unbeaten 58 brought LSG back into contention. Arshad’s rapid 25-ball fifty, coupled with his 73-run eighth-wicket partnership with Ayush Badoni, narrowed the gap to 29 off 12 balls. However, Rasikh Salam’s tight final over, defending 20 runs, clinched DC’s seventh victory of the season.

DC’s total was bolstered by a late blitz from Stubbs, who scored 57* off 25 balls, lifting the team past 200. LSG spinners, particularly Ravi Bishnoi, who returned 26 for 1, had initially kept DC in check during the middle overs.

With both teams still in contention for the playoffs, their fate now hinges on the outcomes of other matches. LSG, with one game left against Mumbai Indians, also remain in the hunt for a top-four finish.
