Mayawati Removes Nephew Akash Anand as BSP’s Political Successor
Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has ousted her nephew, Akash Anand, from his role as the party’s national coordinator and her political heir. This decision comes amid controversy and follows Akash Anand’s recent removal from the position of Mayawati’s political successor. Mayawati clarified that the move was made in the party’s best interests and until Akash gains “full maturity.” She emphasized that her brother, Anand Kumar, will continue to carry out his duties as usual. Akash Anand responded to the decision with respect, affirming his dedication to the “Bhim Mission” and the welfare of society. Mayawati’s decision coincided with the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, though the exact reason for Akash Anand’s removal was not disclosed. Last month, Akash Anand faced a case of Model Code of Conduct violation for alleged objectionable language during a poll rally in Sitapur. Despite the controversy, Akash Anand expressed commitment to his mission and pledged to continue serving society. Mayawati’s actions underscore ongoing internal dynamics within the BSP and its leadership’s response to challenges and controversies.
