Election Filing Begins in Chandigarh and Mohali: Chandigarh Witnesses Two-Cornered Contest; Mohali Heads for Multi-Cornered Battle
As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), candidates can file their nominations until May 14, with withdrawal of candidature possible on May 17 post scrutiny. In Chandigarh, a two-cornered contest looms as BJP’s Sanjay Tandon challenges Congress’ Manish Tewari, with AAP backing the latter. Both parties field fresh candidates, diverging from past winners Kirron Kher and Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Meanwhile, Mohali braces for a four-cornered battle with AAP entering the fray independently, and BJP-SAD ending their alliance. Vijay Inder Singla represents Congress in Anandpur Sahib, while Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi contests Patiala. SAD fields Prem Singh Chandumajra and NK Sharma in Anandpur Sahib and Patiala respectively. AAP’s Malvinder Singh Kang and Balbir Singh represent Anandpur Sahib and Patiala. Preneet Kaur, a former Congress MP, stands for BJP in Patiala, awaiting the BJP’s nominee in Anandpur Sahib.
In the previous elections, Kaur secured a lead in eight assembly segments but faced challenges in Dera Bassi. Tewari emerged victorious against Chandumajra in Anandpur Sahib, securing leads in Kharar and Mohali. The stage is set for intense electoral battles in both constituencies.
