Election Commission Orders Repolling in Arunachal Pradesh Amidst EVM Damage and Violence
Following reports of EVM damage and instances of violence during the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls on April 19, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken decisive action by ordering repolling in eight polling stations across Arunachal Pradesh. This decision comes after the ECI had previously instructed repolls in 11 stations in Manipur.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Commission declared the polling conducted in the eight affected stations as void and mandated fresh polling on April 24, from 6 am to 2 pm. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu confirmed the development in a communique.
The ECI’s swift response underscores its commitment to upholding the integrity and fairness of the electoral process. Repolling ensures that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot without interference or compromise.
The Commission urges all stakeholders, including voters, political parties, and local authorities, to cooperate fully to facilitate smooth and peaceful conduct of the repolling exercise. Maintaining transparency and adherence to electoral guidelines remain paramount in ensuring free and fair elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
