Carlos Alcaraz Advances to Quarterfinals at Indian Wells

Second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz secured a comfortable victory over Fabian Marozsan with a 6-3, 6-3 win, advancing to the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open. Alcaraz, the top remaining seed in the men’s draw, avenged a previous loss to Marozsan, who had defeated him in the Italian Open in May.

The victory came a day after “lucky loser” Luca Nardi stunned world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round at Indian Wells. Alcaraz faced nerves ahead of the match, acknowledging the pressure of playing against an opponent who had previously defeated him. However, he executed his game plan effectively, securing the win and advancing in the tournament.

Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner continued his impressive form, defeating Ben Shelton 7-6(4), 6-1 for his 18th consecutive victory. The third-ranked Italian has won 15 matches in a row in 2024, clinching titles at Melbourne and Rotterdam. Sinner, born in the 2000s, celebrated his 150th hard-court victory, a significant milestone in his young career.

Sinner is set to face Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals, who secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. Alcaraz, the defending champion at Indian Wells, is scheduled to face Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. Zverev rallied after losing the first set to Alex de Minaur and emerged victorious with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 scoreline.

On the women’s side, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-1, while Anastasia Potapova secured a victory over Jasmine Paolini with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 scoreline. The BNP Paribas Open continues with exciting matchups as the players vie for success in one of the premier tournaments on the tennis calendar.
