Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a public rally at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium, criticized the Opposition, including the Congress, accusing some families of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation over the abrogated Article 370. Modi asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are now aware of the truth regarding Article 370 and its impact.
During the event titled “Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir,” Modi unveiled development projects worth over ₹6,400 crore, focusing on agriculture and tourism sectors. He distributed appointment letters to nearly 1,000 newly recruited government employees and interacted with beneficiaries of central schemes, including women achievers, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the positive changes after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, Modi expressed joy at the participation of Jammu and Kashmir in nationwide welfare schemes and the end of an era where specific laws were not applicable in the region. The prime minister emphasized the changing times and the recognition of talent in Jammu and Kashmir without the constraints of Article 370.
The security arrangements were robust, with tight control on routes taken by Modi, and the event witnessed a large gathering of BJP supporters. Modi also launched 43 projects focused on pilgrimage and tourist sites across the country and introduced the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice 2024,’ the first-ever nationwide initiative to gauge the nation’s pulse on tourism.
