PM Modi Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹15,400 Crore in Kolkata
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata during his visit to West Bengal. This marks his second visit to the state within a span of five days. The projects include the inauguration of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, the country’s first underwater Metro service. The 4.8-km stretch, built at a cost of ₹4,965 crore, features India’s deepest Metro station at Howrah, located 30 meters below the ground level. The corridor aims to connect key areas such as the IT hub Salt Lake Sector V.
PM Modi also flagged off other train services, focusing on improving urban mobility, including the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections. Additionally, he dedicated several projects across different states, including the Pune Metro stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project, Agra Metro’s stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar, and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.
In the afternoon, PM Modi addressed a public rally at Barasat in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. During his last visit to Bengal, he criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government over alleged “atrocities on women” in Sandeshkhali and called on the people to ensure the TMC’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
