Late Wednesday night, an escort vehicle from the convoy of Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), met with an accident in Purnea, Bihar. The driver of the escort vehicle, identified as home guard Haleem Alam, died in the accident, while six policemen accompanying the convoy sustained injuries. All the injured individuals are being treated at the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Purnea.
According to reports, the accident occurred in the Mufassil police station area, where a car from Tejashwi Yadav’s convoy collided with another vehicle. A video posted by PTI shows a damaged car being pulled away from the accident site.
One of the escort policemen stated, “The driver of the car died on the spot, and the remaining six police officials were injured in the accident. They are being treated at GMCH Hospital. Further investigation is underway.”
Tejashwi Yadav is currently on a ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra,’ which began on February 20 and is scheduled to continue for 11 days. During this yatra, he plans to travel to all 38 districts of the state. The accident happened in close proximity to Bilauri Panorama Height in Purnia. The impacted vehicle from Yadav’s convoy lost control, breached a divider, and collided with another vehicle in the opposite lane. Reportedly, three individuals in the impacted vehicle sustained severe injuries, and they have been hospitalized. The condition of several injured individuals is reported to be critical. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
