Several Indians Discharged from Russian Army Following India’s Demand: MEA
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that several Indians working as support staff in the Russian army have been discharged following India’s demand for their early release. Media reports had indicated that these Indians were forced to participate in combat along Russia’s border with Ukraine. The MEA clarified that inaccurate reports circulated in the media and asserted that every case brought to the attention of the Indian embassy in Moscow was strongly pursued with Russian authorities. The ministry emphasized that several Indians have already been discharged as a result.
Last week, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had mentioned that New Delhi was in contact with Moscow to secure the early discharge of Indian nationals working as support staff for the Russian army. He also urged Indian nationals to exercise caution and stay away from the conflict zone in Ukraine. The MEA’s response comes amid growing concerns about the involvement of Indians in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had previously called on the MEA to take steps to rescue Indian nationals involved in the situation.
