Union Minister Chandrasekhar Accuses Google’s Gemini AI of Bias Against PM Modi

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded to a user’s complaint on X, alleging bias in Google’s Gemini AI tool against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The user claimed that while the tool provided a proper response to a question about fascism when related to other leaders like Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it refused to answer the query. Chandrasekhar stated that this violation of Rule 3(1)(b) of Intermediary Rules (IT rules) and other criminal laws warrants action.

The minister marked the X post to Google and the Ministry of Electronics and IT for further investigation and action. The user described Gemini AI as “woke and malicious” and called on the government of India to take note of the alleged bias.

Gemini is an AI-driven chatbot developed by Google DeepMind, capable of answering queries, generating content, and displaying information. Elon Musk also criticized Google’s AI image generation engine, describing it as racist. Musk claimed that Google’s AI made its “insane racist, anti-civilizational programming clear to all,” referencing concerns about the tool portraying historical figures as people of color even if they were originally white. The accusations against Gemini AI add to the ongoing debates about bias and ethical concerns in AI technologies.
