Farmers’ Protest: Delhi Chalo March on Hold Until Feb 21, Decision Pending
The central government conducted its fourth round of talks with farm leaders in an attempt to resolve the ongoing farmers’ protests at Delhi borders. After the meeting, farmer leaders decided to temporarily halt the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march until further notice, emphasizing that their demands must be addressed promptly.
While the farmers’ protest was put on hold, leaders stated that the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march would resume on February 21. Discussions will also be held regarding the government’s proposal on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Sarvan Singh Pandher, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, mentioned, “We will discuss the proposals offered by the government with agriculture and legal experts besides farmers, and then take a call on it, and convey our decision to the Centre. As far as our Delhi march is concerned, we have put it on standby for now. On February 21, however, we will peacefully start our march. We will try that before we put our points before the government and discuss some remaining issues.”
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha announced protests in front of the houses of NDA MPs on February 21, demanding MSP legal guarantee, among other demands.
Meanwhile, the ban on mobile internet in several areas in Haryana is set to end on February 19, as per official statements. Discussions on loan waivers and other demands are pending, and the march may resume on February 21 at 11 am if the issues are not resolved. Union Minister Piyush Goyal proposed a five-year plan, suggesting the purchase of pulses, maize, and cotton crops at MSP for the next five years. The farmer leaders will discuss this proposal in their forums over the next two days. If the Centre fails to make efforts based on the fourth round of discussions, the Delhi Chalo march will continue on February 21.
