The Congress party has alleged that its bank accounts, including those of the Youth Congress, have been frozen by the Income Tax department. Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken stated in a press conference that they received information about banks not honoring their cheques, leading to an investigation that revealed the freezing of accounts.
According to Maken, the Income Tax department has demanded a recovery of ₹210 crore from the Youth Congress and the Congress party. He further claimed that the crowdfunding money in their accounts has been frozen, expressing concern about the impact on democracy just two weeks before elections.
The freezing of accounts has triggered a response from the Congress party, adding another layer to the political dynamics in the lead-up to the elections.
