BKU (Tikait) to Decide Support for Farmers’ Protest After Rakesh Tikait’s Return
The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) is set to decide on supporting the ongoing farmers’ protest after union leader Rakesh Tikait returns from his Karnataka visit on Thursday. Excluded from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) movement, which is apolitical, leaders from BKU (Tikait) who contested the previous assembly election in Punjab are eager to determine how they can contribute to the protest.
Yogesh Sharma, the district president of BKU (Tikait) in Muzaffarnagar, expressed farmers’ concerns over the heavy barricading and use of tear gas against protestors, emphasizing the genuine demand for a minimum support price (MSP). He stated that a meeting will be convened after Rakesh Tikait’s return to discuss the union’s stance and the participation of farmers from western UP in the ongoing protest.
Rakesh Tikait, currently in Karnataka, has supported the farmers’ protest, calling for issue resolution through talks. The police are closely monitoring potential movements of farmers from different districts of western UP. There are reports of confinement of certain farmer leaders in their houses to prevent their travel to Delhi. However, police officials deny any confinement, stating that farmer leaders were briefed about barricades on the Delhi-UP border to prevent entry into the capital.
As the situation unfolds, BKU (Tikait) is expected to play a significant role in supporting the farmers’ cause and addressing the challenges faced by protestors.
