Punjab Social Media Influencer Bhana Sidhu Faces Additional Arrest Amid Political Controversy

In a significant turn of events, Bhana Singh Sidhu, a prominent social media influencer in Punjab, is now facing another arrest linked to a snatching case last month, after initially being arrested on extortion charges. The recent arrest, following allegations of a snatching incident in December 2023, has fueled political controversies, with accusations of police action against Sidhu due to his vocal criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

The initial arrest was related to charges of extortion, accusing Sidhu of blackmailing a Ludhiana travel agency operator and demanding Rs 10,000. Despite being on the verge of release on bail, he was taken into custody again by the Punjab Police in connection with the snatching case.

The snatching case involves allegations from a Patiala resident, Tejpreet, who claimed that on December 21, 2023, he was attacked by individuals in a car who snatched his gold chain. Bhana Sidhu was identified among the assailants. However, Sidhu’s close associate, Lakha Sidhana, a gangster-turned-activist, contends that Sidhu is being falsely implicated due to his outspoken criticism of the Chief Minister of Punjab and his government.

The situation has led to concerns about the potential politicization of legal proceedings against Sidhu, who has become known for his social media commentary on political matters. The developments have also sparked tensions, with clashes between police officials and Sidhu’s supporters during their journey from the Badbar Toll Plaza to Sangrur.
