Bharat Ratna Conferred Upon LK Advani: PM Modi Acknowledges Monumental Contribution
In a historic announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart, LK Advani, has been honored with the prestigious Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. PM Modi praised Advani’s monumental role in the development of the nation, describing him as one of the most respected statesmen of our times.
Born in Karachi and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1941, Advani’s political journey began in 1951 when he joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the BJP. Serving as the president of the party three times, Advani played a crucial role in its rise to prominence. His iconic Rath Yatra in 1990 demanding the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya marked a turning point, propelling the BJP to become the second-largest party in the 1991 general elections.
PM Modi emphasized Advani’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and political ethics, acknowledging his exemplary contributions as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and I&B Minister. The Prime Minister expressed deep emotion at the announcement, highlighting the privilege of learning from Advani during their interactions.
