Resignation of Golriz Ghahraman from New Zealand Green Party Following Shoplifting Allegations

In a surprising turn of events, Golriz Ghahraman, a prominent parliamentarian from the New Zealand Green Party, has tendered her resignation amidst allegations of shoplifting at high-end local boutiques on multiple occasions. The resignation comes as a shock to the party and the public, as Ghahraman has been an active and well-respected member of the Green Party.

In a statement addressing the allegations, Ghahraman neither confirmed nor denied the accusations but acknowledged that her actions were inexplicable and out of character. She attributed her behavior to mental health issues and overwhelming work stress, expressing remorse for falling short of the expected standards of behavior for elected representatives.

“I’m sorry. It’s not a behavior I can explain because it’s not rational in any way, and after medical evaluation, I understand I’m not well,” Ghahraman stated in her resignation announcement.

Despite the challenges faced, Ghahraman expressed gratitude to Scotties Boutique for their understanding and kindness during this difficult time. Green Party co-leader James Shaw acknowledged the stressful nature of parliamentary work and highlighted the additional difficulties Ghahraman faced due to threats from the public since taking office.

The New Zealand Green Party respects Ghahraman’s decision and wishes her well in her journey toward recovery. The party will continue its commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct and representation for the people of New Zealand.
