Union Cabinet Approves Migration and Mobility Pact with Italy
The Union Cabinet has granted retrospective approval for the Migration and Mobility Agreement signed between India and Italy. The agreement, inked on November 2 by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, facilitates a range of opportunities for Indian students and professionals in Italy.
Key highlights include temporary residence for Indian students for up to a year after their studies, focusing on enhancing people-to-people contacts, fostering mobility, and strengthening cooperation on migration issues. The pact secures India’s advantageous position under Italy’s existing labor mobility pathways, ensuring avenues for post-study opportunities, internships, and professional training.
Additionally, Italy has allocated quotas for non-seasonal and seasonal Indian workers for the coming years. The agreement formalizes joint efforts to enhance mobility pathways, particularly in healthcare sectors, and establishes mechanisms for monitoring and implementation through a dedicated joint working group.
