Government Introduces ‘Bharat Rice’ at Discounted Rate of Rs 25/kg to Combat Escalating Food Prices
  • PublishedDecember 27, 2023

In a proactive move aimed at alleviating the impact of surging food prices, the government announces the forthcoming launch of ‘Bharat rice’ at a highly discounted rate of Rs 25 per kilogram. This initiative is part of a series of measures undertaken to address the escalating prices of essential food items leading up to the upcoming general elections.

Following the successful implementation of discounted rates for ‘Bharat atta’ and ‘Bharat dal’, the proposed ‘Bharat rice’ will be made available through various government agencies like Nafed, NCCF, Kendriya Bhandar outlets, and mobile vans across the country.

The decision comes amid a substantial increase in the average retail price of rice, aiming to curb inflation and stabilize prices of essential food grains. This step follows recent efforts such as banning non-basmati rice exports and increasing domestic availability through schemes like the Open Market Sales Scheme by the Food Corporation of India.

The initiative aims to provide relief to consumers while addressing challenges faced by lower-income groups. Economists anticipate a gradual decline in the Consumer Price Index, foreseeing a positive impact on inflation by the end of the fiscal year.
