Bhopal Railway Authorities Address Recent Theft Incidents on Trains

Government Railway Police officials in Bhopal have reported incidents of theft totaling approximately ₹4 lakh in the last two months from air-conditioned coaches on various train routes. The stolen items include blankets, bed sheets, pillows, and even taps from washrooms, primarily occurring during journeys lasting over 12 hours.

Theft instances were primarily noted on trains like Bhopal Express, Rewanchal Express, Mahamana Express, and Humsafar Express. Investigations reveal that some thefts were committed by passengers, while others involved habitual offenders; a few cases allegedly involved the assistance of AC coach attendants.

Senior GRP officials acknowledge the challenge, citing instances where attendants fell asleep during the night, enabling passengers to abscond with railway-provided items. In the past two months alone, 1,503 bed sheets, 189 blankets, and 326 pillows were reported stolen from trains originating in Bhopal.

Despite these occurrences, GRP officials, including GRP TI Zaheer Khan, report no recent arrests concerning these thefts.
