Historic Birth of Rare White Leucistic Alligator at Gatorland Orlando
Florida’s Gatorland Orlando proudly announces the extraordinary birth of an exceedingly rare 19.2-inch (49 cm) white leucistic alligator, a groundbreaking moment in reptilian history. Born from a lineage discovered in Louisiana’s swamps in 1987, this blue-eyed marvel is the first solid white descendant from the original leucistic alligators.
Mark McHugh, Gatorland’s President and CEO, describes this event as “beyond rare” and “absolutely extraordinary.” Unlike albino alligators, this unique creature possesses distinct characteristics, setting it apart as the rarest genetic variation in American alligators.
In a call to our dedicated patrons, we seek your help in naming this historic addition to our family. While eagerly anticipated for public viewing early next year, the hatchling, alongside its normally colored sibling, currently receives meticulous care for their well-being and development.
Witness this historic moment firsthand as we prepare to unveil these remarkable creatures to our visitors in the coming year.
