T-Series Owner Bhushan Kumar Cleared of Rape Charges as Mumbai Court Accepts Police Report
In a significant turn of events, the Mumbai Magistrate Court has dismissed the rape case against Bhushan Kumar, the owner of T-Series, following the acceptance of the ‘B summary report’ filed by the Mumbai police. The court ruling on November 9, 2023, marked the conclusive end of the FIR against Kumar, citing lack of evidence or a prima facie case.
Originally filed in July 2021 by DN Nagar police under the Indian Penal Code provisions for rape and cheating, the complaint alleged Kumar’s involvement in a purported job-related assault. However, subsequent investigations and the victim’s retraction of allegations due to a “circumstantial misunderstanding” led to the filing of the ‘B summary’ report by the police.
The journey to this decision involved a prior rejection of the initial B summary report in 2022 by the Andheri Magistrate court, prompting continued scrutiny due to the complainant’s behavior. Despite the victim withdrawing her accusations and consenting to the B summary report’s approval, the magistrate expressed concerns over potential misuse of legal provisions.
Bhushan Kumar, meanwhile, approached the Bombay High Court to quash the FIR, yet with the B summary report’s acceptance, the court dismissed the petition.
This legal outcome reaffirms Kumar’s innocence and marks a pivotal moment in the case’s resolution, underscoring the importance of due process in such sensitive matters.
