Tragic Incident at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)

In a devastating incident at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), a stampede during a tech fest claimed the lives of four students and left at least 64 others injured on Saturday. The chaos ensued when heavy rain prompted attendees to seek shelter in the open-air auditorium, leading to a rush and subsequent stampede. Despite efforts to control the situation, two boys and two girls lost their lives, with four others in critical condition.

An emergency ministerial meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed deep condolences and announced the cancellation of all celebratory events scheduled for Sunday. Relief efforts are underway, with Industry Minister P Rajeev and Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindhu coordinating relief in Kalamassery, where the university is located. The chief minister has directed comprehensive treatment for the injured, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
