A somber incident unfolded at the iconic Eden Gardens cricket stadium following the India-South Africa World Cup match on Sunday, as a police horse named ‘Voice of Reason’ tragically lost its life due to a heart attack caused by sudden firecracker explosions.
‘Voice of Reason,’ a cherished member of the Kolkata Mounted Police, was on duty outside the stadium along with its handler, Animesh Chakraborty, when the unfortunate incident occurred. According to a report in the Times of India, the 5-year and 10-month-old horse was spooked by the unexpected burst of firecrackers, leading to a fatal heart attack.
The firework display took place outside Eden Gardens, as it was intended to mark the 35th birthday of cricket sensation Virat Kohli, as per the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unintended consequences of celebratory actions, highlighting the need for caution and sensitivity when organizing events involving loud and startling elements, especially in areas where animals and the public may be affected.
