The Cricket World Cup witnessed one of the most heroic innings ever as the Australia star battled through cramps and spasms to strike an unbeaten double ton and take his side to a memorable win. Courtesy the super-heroic double ton, Australia defeated Afghanistan by three wickets by reaching a 292-run target in just 46.5 overs. This happened despite Australia getting reduced to 91/7 at one stage. But Glenn Maxwell held on to one end and hit 10 sixes and 21 fours on way to reaching the double ton. The win also ensured that Australia enter the semi-fnals.
Earlier, opener Ibrahim Zadran (129 not out off 143 balls) became the first Afghanistan batter to score a Cricket World Cup century and guided his team to 291 for five in 50 overs. Rashid Khan’s unbeaten 35 off 18 balls towards the end also played a crucial role in Afghanistan posting a good total after opting to bat.
